The Roadrunner’s Nest After-School Program

The Roadrunner’s Nest is a tuition-based, on-site after-school program serving River Oaks Elementary students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. This program extends the school day and provides a safe, structured, and enriching environment after dismissal. Several pick-up time options are available to meet family needs.

Program Options

Regular Extended Day

  • Recommended for families needing 3–5 days per week of care.
    • Half Time: Dismissal to 5:15 PM
    • Full Time: Dismissal to 6:00 PM
    • Full Time Plus: Dismissal to 6:30 PM

Occasional Extended Day

  • Designed for families needing 1–2 days per week. This option uses “units,” which are purchased in increments of 5 and used as needed.
    • Occasional Half Time: Dismissal to 5:15 PM
    • Occasional Full Time: Dismissal to 6:30 PM

Registration Information

Registration opens July 1 via SchoolPay
Please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the REQUIRED Registration Form
    • Found in SchoolPay. 
    • Includes contact information and authorized pick-up adults.
    • Confirms you’ve read the Parent Agreement/Guidelines.
    • New ROE families: You will not be in the SchoolPay system yet. Please register as a guest to complete the form.
  2. Purchase Required Fees
    • One-Time Registration Fee
    • One-Time Fall 2025 Supply Fee
  3. Select Your Extended Day Option
    • Full Time Plus (until 6:30 PM)
    • Full Time (until 6:00 PM)
    • Half Time (until 5:15 PM)
    • Occasional Full Time (until 6:30 PM)
    • Occasional Half Time (until 5:15 PM)

    • The 2025–2026 program runs from Tuesday, August 12, 2025, to Wednesday, June 4, 2026.

  4. Review All SchoolPay Information Thoroughly
    • Details for each registration item are important.
    • If registering for Occasional Extended Day, email your child’s classroom teacher and the RN office at least one school day in advance to notify them of attendance.
  5. Review the Monthly Payment Schedule
    • Monthly due dates are listed in SchoolPay.
    • Parents are responsible for submitting payments on time.
  6. Check Your Balance from 2024–2025
    • If you participated in Roadrunner’s Nest last year, ensure your account balance is $0.
    • Email roecoordinator1@sbcglobal.net for a statement if needed.

Extended Day Daily Schedule

Time Activity
2:45 - 3:30 Snack and Homework
3:30 - 4:30 1st Hour Indoor/Outdoor Activities (includes optional study time)
4:30 - 5:30 2nd Hour Indoor/Outdoor Activities
5:30 - 6:30 Indoor/Outdoor Play or Wind-Down Time (Full Time Plus only)

 

 

 

 

Students may be picked up any time before the end of their selected program.

Final Pick-Up Times:

• Half Time – 5:15 PM
• Full Time – 6:00 PM
• Full Time Plus – 6:30 PM

 

Homework Study Time

Available only to Extended Day participants. This time is intended for quiet, independent work on classroom-assigned homework. Staff can assist with directions but do not provide tutoring or re-teach content.

Safety and Pick-Up Policy

  • Only individuals listed on your child’s registration form may pick up your child.
  • All adults must present a valid photo ID.
  • HISD requires all individuals picking up students to be 18 years or older.

Late Pick-Up Policy


Late pick-up fees will be charged at $2.00 per minute beginning after your selected program's end time. Please be on time.

The Roadrunner’s Nest office is closed until August 1.
